The thoracic spine – middle and upper part of the back – is the stiffest part of the spine due to the ribs attaching here, but it commonly becomes too stiff as a result of poor postures.

Thoracic spine stiffness puts more strain on the neck and lower back, and very commonly the shoulders, which have to compensate for the lack of movement by working harder. This may eventually lead to problems, especially during sport and explains why treatment of the thoracic spine is included in many shoulder, neck, low back and hip problems.
We have seen quite miraculous improvements in shoulder and hip problems simply by increasing movement in the thoracic spine.
