FAQ

FAQ

What happens at a first physiotherapy appointment?

Your physiotherapist takes a history of the problem, tests movement, strength and joint function, explains the likely cause and agrees a plan with you. At Octopus Clinic you can book a 30-minute assessment at £86, or a 60-minute assessment with treatment at £129 if you want hands-on work and exercises started in the same visit.

Do I need a GP referral to see a physiotherapist?

No. Octopus Clinic accepts self-referrals, so you can book directly. A referral is normally only needed when private medical insurance is paying, because most insurers require one plus an authorisation code before they will approve a course of treatment.

How many physiotherapy sessions will I need?

Straightforward musculoskeletal problems often settle within four to six sessions. Long-standing pain, nerve-related problems and post-surgical rehabilitation usually need more, which is why Octopus Clinic offers packages of six, twelve and twenty-four appointments at 10 to 20 per cent below the pay-as-you-go rate. Your physiotherapist estimates the number at the first assessment.

Which areas of London does Octopus Clinic cover?

Octopus Clinic is on Bouverie Street in Blackfriars, EC4Y, and draws patients from across the City and its fringes — Farringdon, Temple, Fleet Street, Chancery Lane, St Paul’s, Monument, Bank and Moorgate are all within a short walk or one stop. Most patients work locally rather than living nearby.

Can I book physiotherapy before or after work?

Yes. Octopus Clinic opens at 8:00am and the last appointments run to 8:00pm, Monday to Friday, which covers both before and after a standard City working day. Same-day appointments are often available. [CONFIRM whether any Saturday appointments run — the site currently lists weekdays only.]

What conditions does physiotherapy treat?

Physiotherapy at Octopus Clinic covers back pain and sciatica, neck pain and headaches, shoulder problems, hip and groin pain, knee injuries, foot and ankle problems, wrist and elbow pain, tendon problems, sports injuries, and pre- and post-operative rehabilitation. It also covers posture-related pain, which is the commonest presentation from City desk workers.

Are Octopus Clinic physiotherapists HCPC registered?

Yes. Octopus Clinic’s physiotherapists are registered with the Health and Care Professions Council, which is a legal requirement to use the title in the UK. The clinic was founded in 2012 and holds a five-star average across more than 340 Google reviews.

Does physiotherapy hurt?

Some techniques cause short-lived discomfort, particularly deep soft-tissue work or moving a stiff joint, and mild soreness for a day afterwards is normal. Treatment should never exceed what you have agreed to tolerate, and your physiotherapist will change the pressure or technique if you say it is too much.

How long does treatment take?
Duration varies by condition, but we achieve results as quickly as possible without unnecessary sessions.

Do I need a GP referral?
No – book directly with our physiotherapists.

What should I bring?
Comfortable clothing and any relevant medical reports or scan results.

Do you treat sports injuries?
Yes, we specialise in sports injury treatment and performance optimisation.

Can you help with chronic pain?
Absolutely. We successfully treat many chronic conditions that haven’t responded elsewhere
