Train serratus anterior and shoulder stability

The serratus anterior muscle is commonly weak. An indication of this is if your shoulder blade looks like it is winging at the back.

Step by step Exercise

  • Kneel on your hands and knees with your elbows slightly bent and your head up but your chin tucked in. 

  • Keep your elbows and neck fixed in this position as you lower your sternum (breast bone) feeling your shoulder blades squeeze together gently at your back and then push through your arms to separate your shoulder blades as much as you can.

  • Your Physiotherapist or Osteopath will progress this to doing it in a press up position when it is safe.
