Train rotator cuff muscles

Please click here to read how the shoulder works before reading the following.

It is important to strengthen the rotator cuff muscles in order to stabilise the shoulder joint.

Do not do it if you have any pain.

Your Physiotherapist or Osteopath will guide you to building up the weight and range of this exercise so that eventually you are doing it with your arm right up by your ear.

Step by step Exercise

  • Lie on your back with your arm slightly away from your body in a pain free position with your elbow bent and a light weight in your hand.

  • Keep your upper arm in the same position as you slowly move your hand onto towards your stomach and then away from your stomach in a pain free range of movement.

  • Repeat 30 times slowly and smoothly.
